A family business, run by the person on site
Paragon Contractors is the contracting company of the Paragon group — a Melbourne family business that has been fencing, landscaping and maintaining gardens for 17 years.
The company is led by Atal Azadzoi, a qualified civil engineer who manages the contracts and works on the tools.
That is deliberate. On most grounds contracts you deal with an account manager who has never walked the site. Here you deal with the person responsible for the work, which means a variation, a hazard or a resident issue gets decided the same day rather than escalated and queued.
Being an engineer matters more on these sites than it sounds. Modern apartment landscapes are built assets — waterproofing membranes beneath planters, rain gardens that only function if their filtration is left intact, podium drainage that fails quietly until it floods. We maintain them with that in mind, and report faults in terms an asset manager can act on rather than a note saying the garden looks wet.
We are deliberately not the biggest contractor in Melbourne. We would rather hold a small number of sites to a standard we can defend than spread a crew thin across dozens of them. Every site we take on gets the same crew, the same days, and the same person answering the phone.
Behind that sits a team of qualified horticulturists and licensed chemical applicators, so the technical work is done by people trained to do it — not by whoever was free that morning.
